Travel from Belize City to San Ignacio, the gateway to Belize's lush interior and the Cayo District. The 2 to 2.5 hour drive takes you through some of the country's most beautiful landscapes.
The drive follows the Western Highway from the coast inland through tropical forests and small villages. You'll cross the Belize River and pass Belmopan (the capital city) before arriving in the charming town of San Ignacio on the banks of the Macal River.
San Ignacio is the perfect base for exploring Belize's interior attractions including the ATM Cave (Actun Tunichil Muknal), Xunantunich Maya ruins, the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve, and the Guatemala border crossing to Tikal.
