Quito to Otavalo Shuttle Service
Book a transfer from Quito to Otavalo — home to South America's largest and most famous indigenous market, set in a stunning Andean valley ringed by volcanoes, where Kichwa culture has thrived for centuries.
What to Expect
The 95 km journey takes 2 to 2.5 hours heading north via the Pan-American Highway through the Ecuadorian highlands, passing through the Equator line (Mitad del Mundo), the town of Cayambe (famous for its biscochos), and descending into the green Otavalo valley with views of the Imbabura and Cotacachi volcanoes.
About Otavalo
Otavalo is famous for its massive Saturday market (Plaza de los Ponchos) — a kaleidoscope of hand-woven textiles, alpaca sweaters, Panama hats, jewelry, leather goods, and handicrafts, operated primarily by the Otavalo indigenous people (Otavalenos), recognized by their distinctive long hair, white pants, and blue ponchos. The Otavalenos are renowned as South America's most successful indigenous traders. Beyond the market, the Peguche waterfall and weaving workshops, Cuicocha crater lake inside Cotacachi volcano, the Mojanda lakes, and the surrounding villages of master artisans make Otavalo a cultural highlight of any Ecuador trip.
