Book a transfer from Hue to Phong Nha — Vietnam's cave kingdom, home to the world's largest cave (Son Doong) and a UNESCO World Heritage karst landscape of extraordinary underground rivers, formations, and jungle-covered mountains.
The 210 km journey takes 3.5 to 4 hours heading north via the Ho Chi Minh Highway, passing through the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) region and the lush, mountainous Quang Binh province. The road winds through increasingly dramatic karst scenery as you approach Phong Nha.
Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park is Vietnam's greatest natural wonder — a UNESCO World Heritage site containing the world's oldest and most spectacular karst formations, with over 300 caves. Son Doong is the world's largest cave (5-day expedition), while Paradise Cave's 31 km of illuminated formations and Phong Nha Cave (explored by boat on an underground river) are more accessible. The Dark Cave offers adventure caving with zip-lining and mud baths. Above ground, the jungle-covered limestone mountains, the Chay River for kayaking, and the Botanical Garden trek provide outdoor adventure. The small village of Phong Nha itself has a charming, backpacker-friendly atmosphere.
