About Pushkar
Pushkar is one of the world's oldest cities and among Hinduism's five sacred pilgrimage sites (dhams). The town is built around Pushkar Lake, with 52 bathing ghats (steps) where pilgrims perform ritual ablutions. The Brahma Temple is one of very few temples in the world dedicated to the Hindu creator god. The main bazaar is a vibrant lane of shops selling silver jewelry, textiles, leather goods, and Rajasthani handicrafts. Pushkar's famous annual Camel Fair (November) transforms the desert outskirts into one of the world's most spectacular cultural gatherings. The town has a distinctly bohemian, vegetarian, and spiritual atmosphere — no meat or alcohol is sold within the sacred boundary.
