Book a transfer from Rhodes Airport (RHO) to Rhodes Town — from the island's Diagoras International Airport to one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe: a UNESCO World Heritage walled town built by the Knights of St. John on the sun-drenched island where the ancient Colossus once stood.
The 16 km journey takes 20 to 30 minutes heading north along the coast road from Diagoras Airport, with views of the turquoise Aegean Sea before arriving at the imposing medieval walls of Rhodes Old Town.
Rhodes Town is dominated by the magnificent Medieval City — a UNESCO World Heritage site enclosed within 4 km of imposing walls and towers built by the Knights of St. John during their 200-year occupation (1309-1522). The Street of the Knights (Odos Ippoton) is the best-preserved medieval street in Europe, lined with the original inns of the seven "tongues" (nationalities) of the Knights Hospitaller. The Grand Master's Palace at the top of the street is a castle-museum of mosaic floors and medieval chambers. The old town's labyrinthine lanes contain Ottoman mosques, Byzantine churches, Jewish synagogues, and Turkish baths, reflecting the island's multicultural history. Outside the walls, Mandraki Harbor — where the Colossus of Rhodes may have stood — is flanked by three windmills and guarded by deer statues. The modern new town offers excellent restaurants, beach bars, and the Aquarium. Lindos (with its ancient acropolis) and the island's stunning beaches make Rhodes one of Greece's most rewarding islands.
