About Ronda
Ronda is one of Spain's most dramatic cities — split in two by the 100-meter-deep El Tajo gorge, spanned by the breathtaking 18th-century Puente Nuevo bridge that has become one of Andalusia's most iconic images. The Plaza de Toros (Spain's oldest and most beautiful bullring, dating to 1785) sits on the cliff edge, and the Arab Baths, Mondragón Palace, and the hanging houses (casas colgadas) above the gorge create an unforgettable setting. Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles both loved Ronda — Welles' ashes are buried here. The surrounding white villages, the Serranía de Ronda natural park, and the local wine scene (Ronda wines are excellent) make it one of Andalusia's essential destinations.
